POOR Lucio Tan.

LUCIO TAN

The Supreme Court gave the taipan a P1-billion tax refund victory, only to be hit the following day with a P3-billion setback.

Tan, or more accurately the Philippine Airlines, will have to shell out at least P3 billion to provide for the landmark decision of the Supreme Court ordering the airline to reinstate about 1,400 flight attendants it retrenched in 1998.

The estimate was provided by lawyer Daniel Gutierrez of Soo Gutierrez Leogardo & Lee, the counsel of the Flight Attendants and Stewards Association of the Philippines.

The law firm in turn is entitled to 10 percent of the monetary award, a handsome P300 million, as attorney’s fee.

Gutierrez, son of former Supreme Court Justice Hugo Gutierrez, credited former associates Angelo Kapunan, Rex Sandoval, and Gidget Bustos for having done the grunt work at the National Labor Relations Commission, and Cherrie Cruz and Joaquin Gan at the Supreme Court.

PAL, in turn, was represented by the blue-chip Sycip Salazar Hernandez & Gatmaitan.

According to Gutierrez, about 800 of the laid-off workers had already been re-hired by PAL at lower salary rates after signing quit-claims.

Why poorer? All his wealth are robbed from the Filpino people! Upon his take-over of PAL, he kicked pilots and ground crews left and right, here, there, everywhere. The Filipinos should have sent him to hell long time ago where he belongs as the Yellow Economic Lucifer!
